Historical Profile of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering

NCUT is a unique university of technology. It is a school that was donated to the country by citizens and restructured. Holding the spirit of taking from society to benefit society, the founders, General Chang Ming and Ms. Wang Kuo-Hsiu, had realized their philosophy by setting an example. “Education is nothing but a concern for role model.” The two founders were awarded official citations successively issued by the two Presidents Lee Teng-Hui and Chen Shui-Bian in 1992 and 2005. They recognized their contribution to society by appreciating their achievement in educating and cultivating students.

 

In 1971, the school was approved to be established. Its name was “Chin-Yi Technical Vocational Junior College” then. In 1973, it was renamed to “Chin-Yi Institute of Technology”. In 1982, It established Night Division. In the winter of 1990, the founders General Chang Ming and Ms. Wang Kuo-Hsiu donated the school unconditionally to the government. In 1990, it was renamed to “Chin-Yi Junior College of Industry and Commerce”. In 1992, it was renamed to “National Chin-Yi Junior College of Industry and Commerce”. In 1999, it was restructured and renamed to “National Chin-Yi Institute of Technology”, On Feb. 1, 2007, it was formally renamed to “National Chin-Yi University of Technology”. 2004

On Apr. 8, the president approved to have separate information engineering from the Department of Electronic Engineering. Thus, the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering was thus established and reported to the Ministry on Sep. 13 for its approval.

On Sep. 27, Ministry of Education approved the establishment of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering by issuing the approval letter No. Tai-Ji-(2)-Zi-0930122936 dated Aug. 23, 2004.

2005

On May 18, the preparatory office for the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering was established. Dr. Jzau-Sheng Lin, the chairman of the Department of Electronic Engineering, was in charge of preparatory work in the 2005 academic year.

On Aug. 1, the “Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering” was permitted to recruit one class of students in the four-year technical program in Day Division. Dr. Jzau-Sheng Lin was the 1st-term chairman of the Department.

2006

From Feb. 1 to July 31, Dr. Jzau-Sheng Lin took a vacation, and Dr. Shih-Yuan Huang acted on his behalf.

From Aug. 1, 2 classes of students were recruited to the four-year technical program in Day Division.

  • On Aug. 1, the preparatory center for the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science was approved to be established. Dr. Jzau-Sheng Lin was appointed as the head of the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

On Aug. 1, Dr. Wang Chuin-Mu served as the 2nd-term chairman of the Department.

2007

On Feb. 1, it was officially renamed to “National Chin-Yi University of Technology”. Dr. Jzau-Sheng Lin served as the 1st-term dean of the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

On Aug. 1, one class of students was recruited to the four-year technical program in Division of Continuing and Extension Education.

2008

On Aug. 1, the master’s program in Day Division was provided.

In April, it acquired the “IEET2008 Engineering and Technology Education Certification” issued by the Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan.

 

On Nov. 29, the Alumni Association of Computer Science and Information Engineering Department was established. The alumnus Jui-Hsing Chu served as the 1st-term president of the Alumni Association.

2009

On Aug. 1, Dr. Wang Chuin-Mu served as the 3rd-term chairperson of the Department.

On Dec. 3, it was assessed by the Ministry of Education and awarded Grade 1 in Category of Profession for the 2009 academic year.

2010

On Dec. 4, the alumna Hsiao-Ying Wu served as the 2nd-term president of the Alumni Association.

2011

On Nov. 22, the alumnus Mao, Yung-Fa served as the 3rd-term president of the Alumni Association.

2012

On Aug. 1, Dr. Chang, Yi-Ying served as the 4th-term chairperson of the Department.

On Aug. 1, the in-service master’s program in Division of Continuing and Extension Education was provided.

On Feb. 1, the spring class for the industrial master’s program was approved by the Ministry.

On Mar. 2, the Ministry visited after the Department was renamed.

On Sep. 27, the office for the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering was relocated to Office E443.

2013

On Apr. 29, it was elected, by the Ministry of Education, as the school to develop the “Plan for Developing Exemplary Universities of Science and Technology” for the period between 2013 and 2016.

On Nov. 23, the alumnus Cheng, Wen-Hsiang served as the 4th-term president of the Alumni Association.

2014

On Aug. 1, it was approved to recruit students to the technical program in the dual system flagship project for the 2014 academic year.

2015

On Aug. 1, Dr. Chang, Yi-Ying served as the 5th-term chairperson of the Department.

On Aug. 1, the four-year program in Day Division was established. It allowed senior high graduates to apply for study in the program.

2016

In April, it acquired the “IEET2008 Engineering and Technology Education Certification” issued by the Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan.

On Aug. 1, it was approved to recruit students to the technical program in the dual system flagship project for the 2016 academic year.

2017

On Aug. 1, Dr. Sheng-Chih Yang served as the 6th-term chairperson of the Department.

On Aug. 1, it was approved to recruit students to the technical program in the dual system flagship project for the 2017 academic year.

2022

On Aug. 1, Dr. Chen-Kun Tsung served as the 7th-term chairperson of the Department.
