On the school opening ceremony, Dr. Achyuta Samanta will be receiving an honorary award from National ChinYi University of Technology for his extraordinary interest in education and as a role model for other educators.
Dr. Samanta is the founder of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS). He is currently a member of the Indian Parliament and has made outstanding contributions to promoting academic exchanges and international cooperation.
Dr. Samanta’s father passed away while he was very young leaving his mother with 7 children to raise under a harsh environment. Despite the circumstances, he never felt defeated, and walked 10 kilometers to school every day. Through the process, he experienced first-hand how education could change a person’s life. Since 1987, he founded KIIT and KISS, hoping to achieve of zero poverty, zero hunger and zero illiteracy, and nurturing talents.
It is also worth mentioning that KISS currently provides food, shelter, health care and education for 27,000 unprivileged students from kindergarten to university. Raising them into successful individuals each with unique skills to contribute the society.
